I’ve been living out of a black, roll-top Arc’teryx backpack for 3 weeks. Everything I need is in there and I carry it on my back like a turtle carries his shell, but mine weighs 30 lbs. – about 18% of my body weight. The first few days, I noticed the weight and degradation while walking, but now I feel like a turtle and it’s just part of me. It has everything I need to survive. I have my clothes, rain gear, medicine, food, water, passport, money, soap, towel and toiletries. I have gotten quite persnickety about how I pack my bag and what things go where. It’s a system I have perfected over the weeks and that is working quite well. Every backpacker, hiker, or pilgrim will figure this out in time. I’ll only be doing it for two more days, but I’ll enjoy them. There’s something satisfying knowing I have everything I need to survive strapped to me.
Tomorrow I’ll go to Muxia. It is said that the Virgin Mary appeared here to help guide the remains of the Apostle James to his final resting place. I’ll set the rose petals from my grandparents into the sea and say a prayer. I won’t be done walking, but I will be done with the promise I made to myself and my grandparents.
I ended up in Dumbría at a municipal albergue. I’m in a room with 8 beds and I’m the only person here. It’s heaven and only 8€! I met Cormac from Ireland and we had a couple beers at the local bar and headed back in. I’m actually in bed before 9!
Today was a lovely walk except for the shin splint in my right leg. It’s sight, but it’s there. It’s also nothing that will hinder my green teaching my goals, but it would be better if it weren’t there. The walk included forests, streams, rain, sun, rainbows, wind, hills, and valleys. They were all beautiful.
Enjoy the photos:

Dominic, I pray you have a powerful moment when you lay those petals down. I knew about your grandfather as I attended the funeral but I didn’t realize your grandmother had passed until you told me when we texted about Hunter. I know they both were so special you, and you to them. May you always be filled with beautiful memories of the time you spent together.
We in America are consumed by stuff. May your life be changed because of the journey you have had. May you be a vessel of love for others and for God. While it may seem close to the end….its just the beginning. Carry on……
As you said, more beautiful pictures! I love all the rolling streets, the quaint shops (bakery) in, what appears, the middle of nowhere, the structure upheld by “mushroom” looking pillars, but most of all, I was wondering… “How much is that moo cow (doggie) in the window”?!? 😂
I pray for continued safety in the rest of your travels. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
