Wet. All. Day. I need new rain gear. It rained all day. Some hard, sometimes light, but all damn day. Until I got to my room and went to the lighthouse and dinner.
I have what I thought was a rain shell, but it doesn’t seem to work. My rain pants work, but are too hot. I’ve had the hair dryer in my room wedged between a shelf, pointed at my shoes and various clothes for at least two hours now. It’s working, but not ideal.
I finally made it to Muxia today. It was a shorter day, but the rain made it miserable. But, I’m glad I made it. The sea here is powerful. The North Atlantic bashes the rocky coast incessantly. The waves explode in frothy clouds. It’s a sight to behold. I got checked into my room, dried some clothes, and changed into others and took a rest.
Once I was dry and rested, I took a walk to the lighthouse and church at the northernmost point of the city. The wind was blowing so hard, it was close to pushing me over. I was able to make it out onto the rocks, still a safe distance from the angry sea, to let go the rose petals I’ve carried from home.
I didn’t exactly know how this was going to go, but I made the best of it. The wind was howling, but fortunately it had stopped raining. I simply said a prayer, told Grandma and Grandpa that I missed them and loved them and that I wanted to do this for them. I opened my small bag and let the petals scatter in the wind. It was a perfect wind that took them out to the water. I reflected on them for a while and I immediately felt a sense that I was missing something. It was a lonelier walk back to my room.
The grocery store was around the corner. I picked up some bananas, a couple chocolate Napoleons, and a water for the evening. Then I got a foot massage and met Cormac, a great guy from Ireland for a beer. On my way back from there, I stopped in a cool little pub and am finishing up this post over a beer.
Tomorrow it’s supposed to rain too. It’s also a longer walk than today. I’m looking forward to the destination, but not the journey.
Here’s there photos and videos I took today. It was pretty wet, so I didn’t take as many.
