Tuesday, October 24, 2023 – Today was an event l extremely wet day. It seemed that today was the day that tested the waterproofness of our gear. My La Sportiva shoes failed and Marylou’s jacket failed. I could hear the hydraulic suction around my toes with every step. Marylou was soaked through. Fortunately, Pontevedra is a larger city and they have a few sure stores. I was able to find a new pair of shoes that I hope will fit work well. Marylou wants to try her jacket again and see how it goes. It was raining so much today that I couldn’t take so many photos. The rain and the phone just didn’t want to cooperate.
Dinner was awesome. We went to a small mariscos, or seafood restaurant down the block and each got the bass. Also, for a tapa, they gave us pescaditos, or fried sardines. Marylou instructed me as to how to get rid of the bones and what to eat. They are really good. The bass was similar, but larger and with more meat. Both were awesome. I still contend that Spanish cooking in these parts is bland. Marylou would disagree. Dennis would not.
The hotel were staying at is a little dated, but for the money, a good deal. It’s best to have a private place to stay at this point in the Camino because they’re are so many more pilgrims than before. You see, you need to walk 100km to get your certificate of completion and many more people only do that, rather than the bulk of the trail like us. So, we’ve seen about 80 more people on the trail in the past couple days than we have in previous days. They fill up the hostels quickly and may not have the nicest manners. The hotels keep us away from that.
Here are our photos from today:
